On April 23, 2021, I delivered a talk with my colleague Dr Pandora Syperek at the Design and Economics Unconference, on the topic of ‘Counter-Framing the New Economy’.
This talk interrogated the socio-material “taken-for-grantedness” of the framing of the New Economy, focusing on the dualistic embededdness of the ‘constitutional trio’ of sustainability: economics, society, ecology, and their variations. The session developed concepts of ‘frame backlash’ and ‘aesthetic friction’, based on historical examples, and used this concept to develop a response to this taken-for-grantedness.
The session is based on ongoing work being conducted by the team at Counter-Framing Design: https://counter-frames.org/
